The third release of this duo and behind a few other Wergild projects.
Unkindness continues their distinctive blending of heavy metal and black metal elements, however “Dark Hero” is not merely a repetition of previous works but a bold progression, offering an intricate exploration of moods ranging from the visceral harshness of blackened metal to more introspective, almost post-metal or hard rock or even atmospheric bleak passages, yet the EP remains rooted in black metal but boldly traverses uncommon sonic terrain, making it both familiar and unpredictable.
This record is steeped in existentialism and mythology, exploring themes of despair, rebellion, and personal reckoning. Each track seem as a chapter in a dark saga, culminating in “Celt”, which critiques modern identity and tradition in a brutal, unflinching manner:
“Leave no cross unturned / Fake pagan symbols learned / Aghast, a manufactured past”
This blend of scathing lyricism and relentless energy ensures the EP ends on a thought-provoking high note.
